Pools.
Why we should just jump in.
When I was a kid, I’d spend a nauseating amount of time pacing around the swimming pool before I’d eventually jump in.
It’s actually pretty funny to think back on now. All the time I spent paralyzed by the thought of eventually being in that seemingly freezing cold water.
I’d stand and watch as all the other kids would happily play in the water. I’d contemplate until either all my friends and whoever else was in the pool started splashing me or until I’d work up the balls to finally get in.
Sometimes I’d use the steps and slowly walk in. But somehow this method was far less satisfying than just jumping in. It’s like the change in temperature was slow and torturous whereas an abrupt jump was shocking for a moment but after that initial moment I’d realize the water wasn’t as bad as I anticipated.
In the end, I’d end up in the pool and fully submerged and, unbeknownst to me, having the most wholesome fun I’d have in my life.
I wish I would’ve known that all that time I spent deliberating was time I could’ve been having fun in the water.
