Splendid Sandwhich

I drove to Panera and I parked my car. Not sure what I was going to eat, I entered the cafe. I decided not to eat until I got to Panera because I thought I had a few free meals accrued on my MyPanera account. I’m getting ready to move to a new apartment and I’m changing jobs, so I’m trying to be more conscious about my spending. Therefore, the free meals I have saved up at Panera will come in handy. But, when I got to the Kiosk, I found out that the only free food I can get is breakfast sandwiches. I have three breakfast sandwiches that I’m entitled to but Panera stops serving breakfast items at 11am. So, I had to choose something else on the menu. And I was going to have to pay for it. After scrolling through the menu, I came across a turkey and bacon sandwich. I’ve never had it before so I decided to try it. I placed my order and sat at a table in the cafe area until my order was ready. It was the first thing I’d eaten all day, so I was especially excited about it. I filled my cardboard cups with water and coffee. Then, I waited patiently for my sandwich to be made. AS soon as my name was called, I hurried to the pick up window where I thanked the Panera employee. I walked back to the table where my belongings were sitting. I sat down and I opened the bag of potato chips I chose as the accompaniment to my sandwich. I reached into the bag and grabbed that sandwich wrapped in wax paper. Wrapped inside the wax paper, I found a gorgeous turkey and bacon sandwich topped with emerald greens, juicy red sliced Roma tomatoes, and generously thick slices of gouda cheese. All of this pressed firmly between two moist cuts of tomato basil bread. I grasped half of the sandwich gently and raised it to my mouth. I bit down on the sandwich and, to my surprise, it all stayed assembled and arranged itself into a never before tasted symphony of flavors inside my mouth. The bread with a light red tint from the tomato and speckled with italian seasonings was delicious and complimented the various components of the sandwich splendidly. I chewed the mouthful of sandwich where the flavors and textures came together in a confluence to make a rather pleasantly unexpected dining experience. I worked my way through the first half of the sandwich. Bite by bite, all leading to a greater level of satisfaction than the last. Some bites I’d design by adding a potato chip or with an extra piece of gouda cheese that had fallen from the body of the sandwich. Without recognizing it, I was within three bites of completing the sandwich without knowing it. My mood had significantly changed. I was much happier than I was before I starteed eating the sandwich. I took the final bite. I wrapped the crumbs and the empty potato chips bag in the wax paper sitting in front of me. I tossed the wax paper into the paper bag that the sandwich and chips came in, then, got up and threw the bag away. I came back to the table to finish the book I was reading. With a satisfied appetite and a cup full of light roast coffee, I read the final 30 pages of my book in peace, happiness, and satiety. I might’ve spent money that I didn’t intend to spend, but at least I now know what tomato basil bread tastes like.
