Today was my second day of isolation. I’m being forced to stay home from work and isolate since I was exposed to a gentleman with Covid this past Tuesday. I’m not staying home from work by choice. Although, I can’t say I’d rather be at work. Being forced to stay home from work somehow just doesn’t feel as good as choosing to stay home from work feels. Rather than sitting around at my apartment all day, I decided to make productive use of my time. I woke up around 930am and put on the clothes I’d laid out for myself the night before. Forest green shorts cut above the knee, white calf socks, my beat-up grey Adidas ultra-boosts, and a black Loser Machine motorcycle t shirt. I brewed a pot of coffee, ate a banana, got in my car and I drove to Percy Warner park to take a walk. I’d set a goal to walk 10 miles today yet I wasn’t sure how I was going to reach it. When I showed up at Percy Warner, I realized there was a trail loop that was 11.2 miles long. It seemed like a perfect way to get my 10 miles in. And so, without thinking twice, I started along the 11.2 mile trail. At first, I passed other trail walkers. This lasted for the first 45 minutes or so. After that, I didn’t see anyone else until I got within a mile of the end of the loop. On the walk, I called and talked to my mom, my dad, and a colleague from work. I listened to some of my favorite music and I finished a podcast I was listening to. The entire time I was walking, I thought about how nice it was to have a day off but how I also felt a little guilty because I’d done nothing to deserve the day off other than be around the wrong person at the wrong time. The walk was enjoyable for the first 5-6 miles. My music kept me entertained and I’d kept a pretty good pace. At around the 8 mile mark, my legs started to get sore and I wondered why I’d decided to go the 11.2 mile trail. There was also a 5 mile trail I could’ve done. Every step after the 8 mile mark hurt. It’d been a long time since I’d gone that far on foot. At one point, I came to a Y in the road and it was unclear which way I had to turn. I had to use my GPS to make sure I was using the correct trail. I finally returned to my car after about 3 hours of walking. I was exhausted and the only drink I had in my car was warm coffee that’d been sitting in the sun since I’d left it. I drank it anyway because I was so thirsty. I hurried home where I made myself a roast beef and provolone sandwich on the stove. I washed it down with a large glass of water mixed with lemon-lime Liquid IV then a cold bottle of Orange Fanta. I spent the rest of my day either reading or hanging around my apartment. I spent about a half an hour working on the card game I plan on creating and selling. I’m making significant progress on it and I can’t wait to put it into action. I think people are going to both enjoy and benefit from it. I finished out the day by watching a few Soft White Underbelly interviews on YouTube. Now I’m writing this before I go to bed. I don’t think today was all that interesting. But it was a day, nonetheless.
